Only the best: Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb, and Specially Selected Pork

Join us in learning more about what Scotch really means and how it can reassure you that not only is the meat you’re buying high quality, but by buying Scotch you are also supporting your local farmers and playing your part in improving the environment.

‘Raised to the highest welfare standards’

Who are Quality Meats Scotland (QMS)? QMS is a public body responsible for helping the Scottish red meat sector improve its efficiency, sustainability and integrity. Their internationally recognised approved assurance schemes cover 90% of livestock farmed for red meat in Scotland. For Puddledub to carry the QMS industry branding you see below, Scotch Beef UKGI, Scotch Lamb UKGI and Specially Selected pork must be born, reared and processed in Scotland. Scotch Quality Assured meat also means that the animals the meat has come from have been raised to the highest welfare standards. The Scottish SPCA independently inspects farms to ensure these standards are being maintained.

Why choose Scotch?

Puddledub are proud to supply our customers with an excellent selection of locally sourced Scotch Beef, Scotch Lamb & Specially Selected Pork. We believe being Scotch provides our customers with the confidence that the meat they are eating is supporting local farmers who are working to uncompromisingly high standards of quality, traceability, and sustainability. By choosing Scotch and not just ‘Scottish’ this instils confidence in consumers, reaffirming their trust in the integrity of the food they consume.

‘More than 80% of land in Scotland is not suitable for growing crops’

More than 80% of land in Scotland is not suitable for growing crops, vegetables or fruit due to the land being too steep, inaccessible or the soil being too thin, but it is ideal for growing grass. In such areas, the soil will be able to hold huge amounts of water and provide flood protection for lower-lying areas, while livestock grazing will also help to encourage and maintain biodiversity by creating species-rich grasslands. The farmers are also able to make a living by selling meat from their grass-fed animals. There is a perfect cycle of sustainability: good for the soil, good for the environment, and producing healthy food for us.

From Farm to Fork

Understanding where our food comes from is not just about satisfying curiosity; it’s about transparency, accountability, and trust in the food system. In Scotland, learning about Scotch production methods, assurance, and traceability is a fundamental aspect of food education. By delving into the intricacies of the meat industry, consumers gain insight into the values and practices that underpin their food choices, empowering them to make informed decisions that align with their principles.

Helen McLennan, QMS:

As well as being part of the internationally recognised QMS ‘whole chain’ assurance programme, which helps make sure Scotland’s red meat is among the worlds-best for quality, animal welfare standards, production and traceability, Puddledub is a member of the Scotch Butcher’s Club.

This means that the business is registered to use the Scotch Beef UK geographical indicator (UKGI), Scotch Lamb UKGI and Specially Selected Pork logos, so customers can buy their produce in confidence. It also supports mastery in the butchery craft through expert learning and development, industry networking and insight.

Puddledub are dedicated to supplying only the best quality, which is why we’ve chosen to only partner with farmers part of the QMS scheme: guaranteeing sustainable, local sourced high quality meat. Shop our range here or view our most recent Scotch lamb recipe.
